My Neighborhood Tutor (MNT) Program is a community-based, education services program serving K-College students, professional educators, and the greater community extending throughout Contra Costa County, CA. Formerly know as Mostly Math, it is the education arm of M. Lee & Company, a small business, privately owned by Monica Johnston, a professional statistician, instructor, entrepreneur, and avid volunteer.
Ms. Johnston holds a M.S. in Statistics from Stanford University. She began peer tutoring in elementary school and has been tutoring professionally for about 30 years since receiving a B.A. in Mathematics. Having been taught by some of the top professors in the country, she brings outstanding teaching techniques to her work with students.
While the MNT Program is most widely known for helping students build their confidence to do math and statistics through guidance on homework and projects, it offers a wide range of academic services including essay writing, standardized test preparation and general academic advising.
MNT works with professional educators by providing formal training and informal opportunities for exchanging teaching strategies. Through A Tutor’s Perspective, tutors and owners of education services organizations have an opportunity to explore and exchange challenges in supplemental education.
Furthermore, MNT supports the needs of under-served and minority students through its signature Bridge the Gap Grant and Diversity in Mathematics Scholarship. MNT provides internships opportunities to adults going into the fields of education or statistics. MNT connects the community to informational forums, especially those related to education, provided by the offices of our legislative representatives, government agencies, non-profits, and education services businesses.
